A unique Approach
Lily Point gourmet seasoning evolved organically over a number of years. Our approach to good food and nutrition is a combination of research, logic and taste. Lily Point Gourmet Sea Salt started with a search for a seasoning that would add interesting, complex and delicious flavors to our meals. I had tried ‘Gomashio’ which is a Japanese seasoning of sesame and seaweed and I liked it a lot and this provided the basis for our seasoning

Our theory on eating healthy is to find really good ‘ingredients’ (raw foods) and to cook them simply. The key to the success of this kind of diet is to have a great seasoning to make the subtle tastes of these simple good foods come alive. That is what Lily Point Gourmet Sea Salt is all about. Its job is to be the catalyst in every meal creating intriguing flavor combinations.
Our Green 'Superfood'
The seasoning gets its name from a point of land that extends into the Salish Sea in the Pacific Northwest. We live very close and every year around the summer solstice the tides are very low in the daytime. So, once a year for a couple of days a ‘spit’ of land is exposed at Lily Point which is covered with delicious varieties of edible seaweed. We gather the seaweed and dry It in the spring sun. I have a fascination with seaweed due to its color, texture and taste. The beautiful dark greens indicate a high concentration of chlorophyll. The dried texture of the various varieties range from very fragile to very tough. To get the seaweed ready to mix with our other ingredients we process it by chopping it into fine grains. For some of the varieties this can take as many as four different chopping processes. The seaweed is essential to the flavor and nutrition of our seasoning. Some things are just obviously healthy and seaweed is one of them.
Seasoning without the salt
Our other key ingredients are sesame seeds, mustard, ginger and turmeric. The sesame seeds provide a complex nutty flavor (and are rich in the essential amino acids) while the mustard and ginger provide a ‘zing’ that gives the palate the same sensation as salt. An important benefit of the seasoning is that it acts as a ‘salt replacer’. Our unique combination of ingredients give the taste benefits of salt without the harmful side effects.
