Cream butter and sugar until fluffy. Add in eggs, one at a time.

Melt chocolate in a bowl with milk and then add to butter and sugar mixture. Beat in chocolate syrup.

Add flour, salt, and vanilla to the mixture. Dissolve baking soda in buttermilk and add to the batter.

Pour batter into a greased and floured bundt or tube pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour or until done.

Allow cake to cool in pan for 15 minutes and then turn over onto a wire rack to cool completely. You can also allow the cake to cool completely in the pan. Do not be surprised if the cake falls a bit once cooled.

**Optional glaze: Combine 1 1/2 cups confectioners sugar, 2 teaspoons cream cheese or butter, 1/2 teaspoon vanilla, and 3 teaspoons light cream. Beat at low speed until smooth and spoon over the cake. Sprinkle with nuts of choice.
