Slice the french bread loaf into 1 inch cubes.

Combine milk, eggs, and vanilla extract in the baking dish. (Add a dash of nutmeg if you like).

Place bread cubes into mixture and push down cubes. Ensure that all of the bread is within the mixture. Cover and refrigerate over night or about 8 hours.

Remove from the refrigerator and allow to sit at room temp for 30-45 minutes.

Preheat oven to 350. Dot buttery spread on top, ensuring a good spread over all of the top once melted.

Combine sugar and cinnamon, sprinkle over the top, spreading out evenly.

Cover with foil and bake for 45-50 minutes. Check for doneness by inserting a knife into the center. It is done when the knife is removed clean. Let stand for 5 minutes to cool.
