11. Prepare the cake: Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Combine flour and next 4 ingredients in a large bowl. Stir together eggs and next 5 ingredients; add to flour mixture, stirring just until dry ingredients are moistened. (Do not beat.) Pour batter into 3 greased and floured 9-inch round cake pans. 2. Bake at 350 degrees F for 23 to 25 minutes or until a wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean. Let cool in pans on wire racks 10 minutes. Remove from pans to wire racks and cool completely (about 1 hour). 3. Prepare the frosting: Beat cream cheese and butter at medium speed with an electric mixer until creamy. Gradually add powdered sugar, beating until fluffy. Beat in lemon juice and zest. Stir in vanilla. 4. Spread frosting between layers and on top and sides of cake. Garnish with walnuts, if desired.
