Brown the bacon in a skillet. Retain enough grease to sauté the white onion and garlic. Pour the rest of the grease into the Dutch oven and use to brown the ground beef.

When the ground beef is browned, add all ingredients except the corn masa and bring the contents to a boil. Reduce coals if necessary to maintain a simmer and cook covered for about 1 1/2 hours.
