blend oats, shortening, and all dry ingredients except flour, raisins and nuts, in mixer until evenly mixed. Add milk and vanilla, mix more, then slowly add flour. Mix till well blended, finally add nuts and raisins and mix again till well incorporated.

take about an 1/8th of a cup scoop of dough, and place on 2 large cookie sheets sprayed lightly with oil (I use a Misto) until have formed approximately 34 or 35 cookies, evenly spaced. Bake in 375 oven for about 13 minutes or until lightly browned.

Remove cookies to rack to cool. When cooled, store in cookie jar, and hire someone to stand guard in front of it, because these cookies will disappear quickly.
