Separate eggs -- yolks and whites separate. Set aside. Cream together 1 stick butter and 1 cup white sugar. Beat in egg yolks.

Sift together dry ingredients.

Alternately add dry ingredients and milk to butter mixture. Beat well after each addition.

Whip egg whites to stiff peaks. Fold egg whites into cake batter.

Pour into 9 x 9 x 2 inch square baking pan. Combine 1/3 cup flour with 1/4 cup brown sugar and 2 T cold butter. This is the topping. Sprinkle topping over batter in pan. Bale in 350 degree oven for 30 minutes.
