I obtained this recipe from my daughter's finace that graduated as a chef from college and is now an executive chef at a local ski resort.

cream, half and half, fat free

1
Cut and cube butternut squash and place in water with 2-3 crushed garlic cloves. You can add salt to the water if desired.

When squash is tender - drain but reserve at least 2 cups of cooking liquid.

Return squash to cooking pot as well as 1 cup of the reserved liquid.

Add salt and pepper and use an immersion blend to blend the squash smooth -

Add 1c of FF 1/2 and 1/2 - continue blending - if thinner consistency is desired - add remaining reserved cooking liquid.
