My mom found this recipe out of an old soup cookbook - it has been our family's favorite for years. We call it "secret recipe" because it's the "secret" ingredients that make it soooo good.

Heat oven to 375, grease an 8x8 inch pan

Combine flour, cornmeal, baking soda, and salt in a bowl. Set aside.

Melt butter in a three quart pan. Once melted, remove from heat.

Stir in sugar, add eggs and beat into mixture, then stir in buttermilk.

Add the flour mixture and stir or whisk until lumps are gone.

Pour into your greased 8x8 inch pan and bake for 30 minutes in 375 degree oven.
