Grind/mash beans with tomato paste and 3 T water. Saute onion and garlic in 2 T oil, then combine with ingredients through #11 (parsley). Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until thoroughly heated. Season to taste.

Combine ingredients 12 through 15 and cook in heavy pot over medium heat, stirring constantly, until corn meal thickens.

Grease/oil an 8" square baking dish. Cover bottom and sides with 2/3 corn meal mixture, spoon bean mixture into center, then cover top with remaining corn meal mixture. Spread shredded cheese over top. Bake at 350 deg F for approx. 30 minutes.
