1Use a small saucepan and cook onion and green or sweet red pepper (choose one or the other pepper) in margarine until very tender.
2Stir in fresh snipped basil or half teaspoon dried basil, crushed.
3Cook and stir for one minute more.
4Remove from heat.
5Combine in blender container cooked vegetable mixture, tomato juice and buttermilk.
6Cover and blend until smooth.
8If serving cold, chill thoroughly.
9Garnish each serving with fresh basil leaves or lime slices, if desired.
