1In a large saucepot, heat the oil and add the oats. Stir for 2 minutes to toast. Add the boiling water and reduce heat to a simmer. Add whole cinnamon stick. Keep at a low simmer for 25 minutes, without stirring.
2Add the flax meal and stir until well combined.
3Combine the salt and milk and add to the oatmeal. Stir gently to combine and cook for an additional 10 minutes.
4Spoon into a serving bowl. Add sugar, brown sugar, maple syrup or agave to taste.
