While it cools to lukewarm, set yeast in 2 cups warm water to which you added 2 Tbsp. sugar.

Let stand until it bubbles. Put in the lukewarm milk and add 2 cups flour. Stir and let this set until it bubbles. Then add all the other indgredients mix well. Then work in enough flour until dough pulls loose from side of pan. The dough should be slightly sticky. Let raise until doubled. Roll out on well floured surface and cut doughnuts with floured cutter. Lay doughnuts on lightly floured surface to raise until light & springy. Fry in hot fat and drain them on paper towels.
