One-Layer Chocolate Cake

cupunsweetened cocoa powder

cupmilk, lowfat, fluid, 1% milkfat, with added vitamin A

cupshortening

teaspoonvanilla extract

Steps
Sequence Step
1In a bowl, combine flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and 1/4 teaspoon salt. Add milk, shortening, and vanilla. Beat with an electric mixer on low speed till combined. beat on medium speed for 2 minutes. Add egg and beat 2 minutes more. Pour into a greased and floured 9x1-1/2" round baking pan. Bake in a 350* oven for 30-35 minutes or till a toothpick inserted near the center comes out clean. Cool on a rack for 10 minutes. Remove from pan. Cool thoroughly on a rack.

cupunsweetened cocoa powder

cupmilk, 1% with added vitamin A

Sequence Step
1Combine powdered sugar, cocoa, vanilla and milk in bowl. With mixer, beat in butter until fluffy. Add more milk 1 tablespoon at a time, if necessary.
