Steps
Sequence Step
1Wash dried split peas (2 cups) and put in crock pot or slow cooker with 8 cups of water on highest setting.
2Peel and chop carrots. I chop them in fairly large chunks. Add to peas and water.
3Chop Onions and Green Bell Pepper, again in fairly large chunks. Sautee lightly in olive oil
4Once water is hot and steamy (boiling if your crock pot does such things, my slow cooker doesn''t really), add onions and green peppers, turn heat to lower setting.
5Cook on low setting as long as you can! I cooked mine about 3 hours, then add the curry, and let it cook another hour. (S
6Cook as long as you want. I like to cook it until the peas break down, some people prefer the peas to still be "chunky". If you really like it chunky, add the curry, peppers and onions much earlier.
7I cook soups like these on the weekend and take them to work for lunch during the week. You know the nursery rhyme that mentions "Peas Porridge in the Pot Nine Days Old?" This is one of those soups that gets better every day! I hope you enjoy it!
