Steps
Sequence Step
1Preheat oven to 375 and either lightly grease or lay parchment on three baking sheets.
2Mix water and flax seed meal in small bowl and set aside.
3In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, salt, baking soda, and spices; set aside
4In a large mixer bowl combine the shortening, butter and brown sugar; beat until the mixture is smooth and fluffy. Add the egg, beating until incorporated; stop the mixer and scrape the sides and bottom of the bowl. Add half the dry ingredients, mix to combine, then mix in the molasses, the remaining dry ingredients, and the buttermilk.
5scoop dough out onto prepared sheet and bake for 9 to 12 minutes. When cookies are done let them cool on a wire rack.
