1 | Sift together flour, cream of tartar, baking sodda and salt and set aside. |
2 | Cream butter and shortening. |
3 | Slowly, add sugar; then eggs, one at a time. |
4 | Add creamed mixture to flour mixture. |
5 | Chill dough for at least one hour. |
6 | Preheat oven to 400 degrees. |
7 | Line cookie sheet with parchment paper. |
8 | Mix sugar and cinnamon. |
9 | Roll dough into small balls about the size of a walnut. |
10 | Roll each ball in the cinnamon sugar mixture to coat evenly. |
11 | Place on lined cookie sheet about 2 inches apart. |
12 | Bake at 400 degrees for 10 minutes. |
13 | Cool for 2 minutes. |
14 | Remove cookies from cookie sheet to a wire rack and cool completely. |
15 | Colored sugar crystals can be substituted during the holidays for a more festive appearance. |
