Recipes - Cheryl Clacks 9 a Day PLUS Rainbow All Day Liquid Energy Recipe

Recipe Name

Cheryl Clack's "9 a Day PLUS - Rainbow All Day, Liquid Energy"

Submitted by Guest
Recipe Description I raised my children on this since there were preschoolers...they drank it "tub side" like a fancy after dinner cocktail during their baths. 25 years later - they are raising a 3rd generation of "whole foods" babies before there was a movement or Whole Foods stores! A VITAMIX is necessary for prep as prescribed. If using a non-commercial blender, I would suggest chopping celery/carrots/apples into small pieces to avoid motor burn out.

1/2
cup, unthawedbluberries, frozen
1
1/2
cup, wholecranberries, raw, frozen
1
3/4
cups, choppedcarrot,chopped
4
stalks large (11"-12" long)celery, raw, chopped
1
1/4
cups, dicedpineapple
4
cupsparsley, chopped
1
large (3-1/4" dia) (approx 2 per lb)apple, raw with skin, chopped
2
tablespoonsFlaxseed oil
2
ouncesprotein powder vanilla (2 scoops) (MuscleTech 100% Whey)
4
teaspoonsPsyllium Husk Powder
2
teaspoonsgreen tea, brewed, cooled OR filtered water
1
cupAcai Berry Juice, Genesis Today
Steps
Sequence Step
1Load vegetables and fruits - INTO VITAMIX in order listed, frozen berries, coarsley chopped carrots, celery and apple, on large bunch of parsley - stems and all. DO NOT TURN ON MACHINE - yet *prep is minimal – the smaller you put it in, the more quickly it it liquifies 1-1/2 to 2 minutes
2ADD: 1 cup Acai Berry (puree blend) Juice by Genesis Today (I have also used cranberry or blueberry/cran) 4 teaspoons psyllium husk powder (available at Rainbow Grocery – Decatur) (refrigerate) 2 tablespoons flax seed oil (Spectrum, cold pressed) (DeKalb Farmer''s Mkt.) (refrigerate) 2 scoops MuscleTech Premium 100% Whey Protein, vanilla (Sam''s Club)
3ADD first cup (of 1-2 cups) of zero liquid, filtered water or freshly brewed and cooled green or white tea Start VITAMIX on slow - increase speed to liquify...add additional filtered water or cooled green/white tea until drinking consistency.
4Important Note: If not drinking immediately, as in drinking throughout the day...the psyllium husk powder will thicken and separate from lighter liquid (once it has absorbed it''s full weight in liquid). JUST shake or re-blend to mix. I actually just sit blender container back in fridge and pop on motor base as needed. If carrying in portable container, leave room to shake. Consume same day ...or the next. (sometimes I reserve a small serving to jumpstart my morning - until I can make a new batch!)
5Optional: GREENS SuperFoods Berry Burst (blend of powdered super greens, super fruits, sea vegetables, probiotics and wild berries
6Substitutions: strawberries for cran and blueberries NOTE: strawberries being lighter in color WITH the GREENS yeilds a less appetitizng color (ahem...red and green makes brown~wink)but it is still delicious and nutritous! EXTRA GREENS in Original or Orangsicle instead of Berry Burst will make it REALLY GREEN!!! (like 3-4 Tablespoons of GREENS ) Affectionately, known as "Green Sludge" as dubbed by mother who turned up her nose before she tasted it and warned me that if I "made" my children drink that, that one day they would "make" me drink it, too. I said "I SURE HOPE SO!" Love it.
