Steps
Sequence Step
1Preheat oven to 350F. Spray an 8 or 9" square baking pan with vegetable oil spray.
2In a medium bowl, stir together apples and sugar; let stand for 10 minutes.
3In a large bowl, stir together flour, optional cocoa powder, cinnamon, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
4In a medium bowl, stir together remaining ingredients except icing sugar.
5Stir apple mixture into flour mixture.
6Add coff mixture, stirring until blended.
7Pour batter into pan. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.
8Let cool on a rack for about 30 minutes. To serve, remove pan and dust with icing or confectioners'' sugar and cut into squares.
